This is the old name (Slavonic) of my home town, Bacau – Romania. It was first mentioned in 1408. The city is situated in the historical region of Moldavia, at the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains, and on the Bistritsa River. The name itself appears to be of Slavonic, old Hungarian, Cuman or Pecheneg origins, so take your pick. Worth to mention here that an entire debate regarding this exists. I see myself as Moldovian, before anything else. And I am trying to say it on and with photographic film and old cameras. Successful or not, I always enjoy a challenge.

“Bakovia” comes as a personal photographic project. I just hope this will be of interest to those who have never visited the town, and why not, to the locals as well.
