Although I have been using extensively this type of Ilford film (in both formats, 35mm and 120), I never pushed or pulled it. At all. The need was not there to begin with, and I always shot processed it at box speed. Beautiful results, as in this example here; more often than not, when traveling, this was my film of choice, because it covered a lot of situations and also low light moments. So, yes, this film was one of my favourites and still is.
However, reading recently somewhere about pushing this emulsion, I loaded a fresh roll in my Nikon F4 and shot it as 800. This came in handy, as I was about to attend some Christmas carolling in the local cathedral, my daughter being one of the carollers; this was organized by the schools she attends. As the orthodox churches are not known for their lighting of the interior, a 800 ASA film could not come more handy.
The camera handled the ASA set at 800 extremely well. Granted, I had a 50/1.8 AF lens on, and camera set on Ph, but even so…the viewfinder informed me of excellent aperture and shutter combinations for that semi-dark environment. I was almost sorry not to have the 35-105/3.5 AF lens on the camera, just to see how this ASA setting deals with not so fast lenses.
Oh yes…the frowning furry thing on the main photo is Mischief. A cynical cat if there ever was one. Name says all.
