This is probably the film I used most since the beginning of the 90’s. Of course it is not the same anymore, as the old APX 100 is long gone now, but the current replacements are still all right. For instance, I remember the film support, the celluloid, was jet black in the old days. Now, more of a grey-ish sort of colour.
The 100 appealed to me because of its looks: silver rich, sharp, tonal, and with a manageable contrast. Did I say sharp? well, it does cut like a blade, that sharp means. In the old days, I was developing the old Agfapan or APX100 in Rodinal Special or simple Rodinal, with excellent results. Later years however I wanted to tame a bit the sharpness, and I started to use D76 in stock or 1+1. Results? Even sharper than I imagined.
I usually rate this film @50 or @80, very rarely @100 as per box value. To be honest, I like the results better. Grain wise, I see less of it @50. I usually develop at stand, with just a touch of breeze in swirling the reel.
These pictures here are taken with OM-1, processed in Kodak D76, stock.
