I remember how glad I was when I got my first Minox IIIs and Minox meter set. After playing with my first Minox camera, a model B, for about a year or so, I thought it would be a good thing to buy this set. And so I did, the set was with green cases, very good condition, almost new it seemed to me at the time.
Of course, the first thing was to check the meter for its accuracy. I had no other meter for comparison, but a friend of mine had a very good and reliable Gossen Lunasix 3, and he helped me checking the Minox meter. It was very accurate, and that the start of a beautiful friendship between me and my Minox meter. For about 20 yrs it was carried with me everywhere. And the results I got from Minox cameras are witness to its reliability.
However, a few years ago I had to put it in a box to rest; along the way, it became tired, reading almost a full stop. The glass window shattered a corner, the glass itself became loose at some point, I re-glued it back but I never was able to replace it. For some years, I used it with the glass corner missing. It was all right, just had to remember not to take it out in snow or rain, and keep it always in its little green case.
It is not the only Minox meter I have, purchased a few along the way. But this one, my first one, is the one that still talks to me, about good old days, times when I was younger, healthier and the world was all right. Gone times.
