Yashica FX-3 Super 2000

Yashica FX-3 Super 2000

So, the Yashica FX-3 Super 2000 – right from the start, this is a tiny camera. Well, perhaps not tiny, but certainly smaller than usual (for me). If I am to measure and weigh things here, it is an almost twin in these respects to Olympus OM1 or OM2n.

It is that, but in the same time is much simpler. So simple that it very much resembles a Pentax Spotmatic: same very clean interface, only key features such as release button, rewind, shutter speed knob, and the film winder. Period. Wonderfully simple, and enough manufacturing quality to satisfy me (and probably most users, I guess).

The meter is of the LED type, three of these on the right side of the viewfinder: there is an upper +, a lower – and a middle one indicates the right setting for a good shot. Saved the best bit for last: the 1/2000 secs shutter speed. Splendid. Of course, a hot shoe and a frame counter.

A very good glass, Yashinon ML 50/1.9, said to be an excellent lens, and pretty fast too, from a decent 0.5m to infinity. A very reliable C/Y mount, with a lens release button on the right side of the lens (bit unusual for me), being accustomed to the left side (for Nikon). All in all, pretty decent and reliable features.
