My Minox journey continues…

A walk in the park with Minox LX and APX 100

A walk in the park with Minox LX and APX 100

My daughter qualified for the National Contest for languages, and we had to make the trip to the city where this was held and organized, a city called Arad, W. of Romania near the border with Hungary. And what fathers do when their child is taking the exams? Why, roam the city and take photographs, waiting for the said exams to end and their child to tell them how well she managed. Which she did, by the way 🙂 .

Arad is a very beautiful city, with plenty of architecture and landscapes inherited from the old Austro-Hungarian ruling of this province for some 200 or so years, until 1918. True, the city grew and like everything else in this world, changed along the years. Sometime to the better, sometimes not. But the places are great and really suited for photographs, and I was sorry to be there only for a limited time. I wish I had a full day just to visit the city, the weather was really great, plenty of young people roaming around, streets colourful, everything looking fabulous.

I took a couple of Minox cameras with me for this trip, a IIIs and an LX, both loaded with Agfa APX 100. Thought to err on the safe side, for the weather was forecast to be nice, but this time of the year one never knows for certain. So I thought APX 100 would be better than anything slower; alas, not much 400 cut these days, so I could not take any with me for this occasion. There were situations where a 400 roll would’ve come in handy.

These are images taken with Minox LX in a park near the place where my daughter undertook her exams. It’s not a large park, rather small, but really nice. I metered the IIIs shots, but the LX managed to this on its own, in a really good manner. Negative was processed in Rodinal 1+50 for 12′ in a Jobo 8×11 reel.
