Nikon FM3A is journeying to Moldova

This little country is something of a hidden jewel. Yes, it’s poor. Yes, is corrupted to the bone. Yes, many people living there are yet to find their true identity, and struggle to learn freedom and democracy. The country slowly (very much so) is waking up, looking to the West with hope. Because for so long, their compass showed East only, namely Russia. The “Russian bear” is still keeping them in a deadly embrace.

But this country is amazing. The traditions, in spite of decades of communist oppression, are still there, and it was the tradition one of their resistance means to keep the nation’s spirit alive. People are naïve, yes, many of them. But they learn fast, they are really fine people. The roads are still broken in places, good and excellent in other parts of the country, but the places these roads may take you are pure history, wonderful places, where tales of the old Moldovan mark fighters are told with pride. Because they are proud of their heritage, of their history, of their land and of their traditions.

This small country is young, and it is now, in the time of the great tribulations that came to pass, that the forge of history will build, unite and strengthen the will of this small but extraordinary country in the Eastern Europe.

Photographs were taken in the small town of Nisporeni, with a Nikon FM3A and Fomapan 100.
